Cavo
Cavo is a village, part of Rio Marina. The antique origins go back to the times of the etruscans, who inhabited the zone and exploited the iron mines.
The family Tonietti were the most important in Rio Marina at the begining of the '900, leaseholders of all the local iron mines. Cavo became the favourite residence for holidays. They built their imposing villa, Bellariva in gothic style resembling a castle and the 'villa Tonietti' on the promontory of 'Capocastello'. The family mausoleum was designed and built by the florentine architect Gino Coppedè
Since the 1940 with the construction of the first hotels Cavo has always been an ideal place for holidays. Many families have tried to build structures capable of welcoming tourists, for example bed and breakfast and holiday homes.
Tourists will find available a minimarket, bakery, greengrocers, fishshop, newsagents, chemist, hardware shop and a petrol station. A medical service for tourists can be found at the local Misericordia. There are various tourist shops, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy an appetizing meal based on fresh fish.
Cavo is a gem on the north east coast of Elba where you can relax and live in contact with nature, forget your car and the confusion of the city.
